Crown Reduction

The crown of a tree is the section containing the branches, foliage and any fruits or flowers the tree may have – or in other words, from it’s lowest branches to the very top of the tree.

When our tree surgeons reduce a tree crown, they will selectively cut away the outer length of branches so that the overall size of the crown is smaller. This is sometimes known as reducing the “spread” of the crown.

Our tree surgeons will also shape the crown so it looks more attractive, usually making it rounder, or straightening the edges, depending on the species of tree.

Similarly, we are also very experienced at trimming hedges of all shapes and sizes, and we offer a dedicated hedge trimming service across North Wales.

Crown Thinning and Canopy Thinning

Crown thinning, also known as canopy thinning, is when certain branches are selectively removed by the tree surgeon so that the canopy is thinner. The effect is that it increases the amount of light coming through the tree while reducing it’s wind resistance, meaning the tree will move and sway less in high winds.

Some of our clients in North Wales choose crown thinning rather than taking the more drastic option of felling and removing a tree. Sometimes this is all that is needed, and it means the family can enjoy the tree for many years to come.

However, if your tree does need to be felled and removed, we at R.Jones Tree Services offer a tree felling and removal service in North Wales.

Crown Raising and Crown Lifting

Crown raising, otherwise known as crown lifting, is where the lower branches are removed so that the crown, or canopy, begins at a higher point.

Our clients often need a tree crown raising so that people, pedestrians and vehicles don’t come into contact with the tree. It means that the public can pass under the tree safely, and that traffic can see clearly around corners.

Depending on the tree species, crown raising can be needed on a regular basis, such as every year, or every other year. Please feel free to request that we call you every year to check if you need your tree cutting back.

Deadwooding

Depending on location, soil quality and available light, some trees will see a number of their branches wither and eventually die. Pest and disease damage can also strike the health of tree branches.

When this happens, the branches will become weak over time. If they are left for a long enough time, they may become a danger to people, property or roads, particularly the next time high winds or storms are experienced.

It’s better to call a professional to remove the deadwood before this happens. Tree surgeons, like those at R.Jones Tree Services, can be in high demand following storms, so this is another reason to make the call before the high winds strike.

Deadwooding will also keep your tree looking its best, and reduce unwanted weight and wind resistance in the tree.
